5 reasons teams move to Typinator

Cloud-based text expanders upload your abbreviation sets to vendor servers. Typinator does not. It is a privacy-first TextExpander alternative for teams that need data to stay on their own infrastructure.

Typinator

Stores data locally. No intermediary.

Data residency control
Team sets via your own file infrastructure
No ergonis server receives abbreviation content
Full offline functionality
IT audit through your own systems
ergonis has no technical access to your data.

Cloud text expanders

Data goes to vendor servers. Always.

No data residency control
Vendor has access to all abbreviation content
Data residency depends on vendor server locations
Reduced functionality offline
Compliance requires auditing the vendor (SOC 2)
Compliance means trusting and auditing the vendor.

Customer support teams, sales reps, legal teams, and HR departments use Typinator to automate repetitive text, on their own infrastructure.

Looking for a TextExpander alternative?

TextExpander syncs exclusively through its own servers. Teams move from cloud-based text expanders when abbreviation content has to stay out of vendor servers. Typinator runs locally on Mac and team sets can be shared through any file sharing infrastructure.

Typinator imports your existing TextExpander, aText and PhraseExpress libraries, including snippets and groups. After import, your sets stay on the Mac and on the storage path you control. Read our full Typinator vs TextExpander comparison.

Migration in three steps

  1. 1 Export your current snippet library from your existing tool.
  2. 2 Import it into Typinator. Groups become abbreviation sets.
  3. 3 Point your team to a shared file path on your infrastructure (NAS, file server, WebDAV, or any synced folder).

Frequently asked by IT and security teams

Where is abbreviation data stored?

Locally on your Mac. Team sets sync via the file path your IT controls (NAS, file server, WebDAV, or any synced folder). On iPhone and iPad, sync goes via your own iCloud account. ergonis servers never receive abbreviation content.

Does Typinator work offline?

Yes. Expansion works without an internet connection. Internet is only required for license validation and software updates, not for abbreviation access.

Why do companies switch from cloud-based text expanders?

TextExpander syncs exclusively through its own servers. Cloud tools upload abbreviation libraries to vendor servers. Typinator stores data on infrastructure you control, locally or on your own systems. Your IT manages access, backup, and residency.

Why doesn't Typinator have SOC 2 Type II?

SOC 2 audits vendor controls over data on their servers. Typinator stores no abbreviation data on ergonis servers. There is nothing to audit.

Is Typinator GDPR compliant?

Yes. ergonis is an EU company and operates under GDPR. Your abbreviation content stays on your own devices and infrastructure, so it never reaches ergonis. For the limited account and license data ergonis does process, a privacy policy applies.
